Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about auto financing in British Columbia. No jargon.
How the Service Works
How does Coast Auto Loans actually work?
You fill out one short application form that takes about 2 to 3 minutes. We review your information and match your file to BC dealerships in our network whose lenders are the right fit for your credit profile. A matched dealership contacts you directly, presents you with financing options, and if the terms work for your budget, you finalize everything at the dealership. There is no obligation at any point.
Will applying affect my credit score?
No. We only run a soft credit check when you submit your application. A soft inquiry does not appear on your credit report and does not lower your score in any way. A hard inquiry only happens much later, if you choose to move forward with a specific dealership offer and the lender pulls your full bureau report to finalize the deal.
How long does it take to get a response in BC?
The form takes about 2 to 3 minutes to complete. After that, most applicants hear back within a few hours during business hours. If you apply on a weekday morning, same-day responses are common. Weekend applications are typically followed up the next business day by Monday morning.
Is this service actually free?
Yes, completely free. There is no application fee, no broker fee, no monthly charge, and no fine print. We are paid by the BC dealerships in our network when a deal is finalized. You pay nothing, and you can walk away from any offer without penalty.
Do I have to accept the dealership offer I receive?
Not at all. Receiving an offer means a BC dealership is willing to work with your situation. You review the terms, and if the rate or monthly payment does not work for your budget, you decline. There is no obligation and no pressure to sign anything just because you applied.
Credit, Income, and Eligibility in BC
I have bad credit. Can BC dealerships actually approve me?
Yes. The dealerships in our BC network are specifically set up for credit situations that banks decline. Bankruptcy, consumer proposals, late payments, repossessions, collections. If your discharge is complete and you have verifiable income today, you have a real chance of approval. Many of our applicants were previously turned down by banks or credit unions and were approved through our network.
I just came out of a consumer proposal. Is it too soon to apply?
It depends on how recently it was discharged and your current income situation. Some of our BC dealership partners will work with applicants immediately after discharge if the income is strong enough. Others prefer six months to a year post-discharge. Submit an application and we will match you with the options that fit where you are right now.
I am a newcomer to BC with no Canadian credit history. Can I apply?
Yes. Having no Canadian credit history is very different from having bad credit. Our BC dealership network includes locations in Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, Richmond, and other cities that regularly work with newcomers from the Philippines, India, China, Iran, Ukraine, South Korea, and other countries. If you have a valid work permit or permanent residency, a BC driver's licence, and provable income, you have real options. Bring your immigration documents, recent pay stubs, and a void cheque when you visit the dealership.
I am self-employed or run my own business in BC. Does that disqualify me?
No. Self-employment income is accepted. You will typically need to provide your last two years of Notice of Assessment documents and recent bank statements to show consistent cash flow. Some lenders are more comfortable with self-employment than others, so our matching process factors your income type into which BC dealerships we approach on your behalf.
I work in seasonal tourism or the fishing industry in BC. Will lenders accept that?
Yes, and this is one of the more common income types we handle in BC. Standard lenders often reject seasonal income because it does not arrive every month. Our lenders evaluate your annual income through your Notice of Assessment, your two most recent years of tax returns, and your bank statements. A strong seasonal income absolutely counts. You may need to provide more documentation than a salaried employee, but that income qualifies.
Vehicles, Trade-Ins, and Financing in BC
What kind of vehicles can I finance?
Cars, trucks, SUVs, minivans, and light commercial vehicles, both new and used. BC roads vary from city commuting in Metro Vancouver to mountain driving in the Interior and the Sea to Sky corridor. Whether you need a fuel-efficient commuter, an all-wheel-drive crossover, or a heavy-duty truck for Northern BC, our dealership network carries strong inventory across all categories. Mention your preferred vehicle type in the application and we factor it into the match.
Can I include my current vehicle as a trade-in?
Yes. Even if you still owe money on your current vehicle, we can work the trade-in value into your new deal. If your vehicle is worth less than the remaining balance on the loan (negative equity), the shortfall can often be rolled into the new financing agreement. This does increase the total amount you are financing, so understanding the numbers before you decide is important. The BC dealership will walk you through the math.
What interest rate should I expect on a BC auto loan?
Rates vary based on your credit profile, income, the vehicle price, and the specific lender that ends up being the right fit. Applicants with stronger credit and steady income typically qualify for competitive rates. Those rebuilding credit may see higher rates initially. Once you are matched with a BC dealership, you will receive specific terms to review. You are under no obligation to accept any rate that does not work for your budget.
Do you work with dealerships outside Metro Vancouver?
Yes. Our BC network extends across the province, including Victoria, Kelowna, Kamloops, Prince George, Nanaimo, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Langley, Coquitlam, Vernon, Penticton, Courtenay, Cranbrook, Fort St. John, and Terrace. If you are in a smaller community, we will find the closest matched dealership or one willing to work with you remotely on initial paperwork before you make the trip in.
